MIAMI – January 13, 2017 – Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) hosts its third annual Art of the Party, the museum’s largest fundraiser of the year, on April 1, 2017. Art of the Party, presented by Valentino, will honor artist Lorna Simpson and feature three exclusive guest experiences conceptualized by Lee Brian Schrager, as well as culinary collaborations by STARR Catering Group and Chef Michael Schwartz. The evening showcases the world-class museum’s unique architecture and celebrates Miami’s position as an international art capital. Join cultural philanthropists, artists, civic leaders and arts supporters at Miami’s flagship art museum for an unforgettable evening in honor of one of today’s leading female artists. Art of the Party raises funds for the museum’s robust arts education program, the largest outside the Miami-Dade County school system.

“This year, we have the pleasure of honoring Lorna Simpson, a pioneer of conceptual photography and one of our collection artists,” said PAMM Director Franklin Sirmans. “Her provocative, photographic works address many of the issues we face today, from racial and sexual identity to conceptions of the body to interpersonal communication and relationships, allowing for a deepened exploration of contemporary culture and discussion.”

Lorna Simpson is an acclaimed conceptual photographer and painter, and one of the leading female artists working today. Her work has been vitally important to the evolution of PAMM for the last twenty years. In 1997, felt works by the artist were exhibited at the museum, and in 2006, a survey exhibition of Simpson's work traveled to the institution. Her seminal work Still (1997) was included in AMERICANA, PAMM’s inaugural exhibition series in its new building. Simpson’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum, New York; Haus der Kunst, Munich; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, among others.

Lee Brian Schrager, who has collaborated with PAMM on this unique event for the past two years, serves as senior vice president, communications & corporate social responsibility for Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits and is widely recognized for his role as founder & director of the popular Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach and New York City Wine & Food Festivals. Culinary offerings are provided by STARR Catering Group as well as local favorite and James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Schwartz in celebration of his flagship Michael’s Genuine® Food & Drink’s 10th anniversary.
